What is Positive Discipline?

According to Wikipedia, positive parenting (or positive discipline) is;

Positive Discipline or PD is a discipline model used by schools and in parenting that focuses on the positive points of behavior. It is based on the idea that there are no bad children, just good and bad behaviors. Good behavior can be taught and reinforced while weaning the bad behaviors without hurting the child verbally or physically. People engaging in positive discipline are not ignoring problems. Rather, they are actively involved in helping the child learn how to handle situations more appropriately while remaining calm, friendly and respectful to the children themselves. Positive discipline includes a number of different techniques that can lead to a more effective way for parents to manage their kids behavior, or for teachers to manage groups of students.”

Positive parenting is based on the work of Alfred Adler and Rudolf Dreikurs in the 1920s. It is based on the ideas that children need belonging, respect and to be taught life skills. Not just punishment. While you may think positive parenting ignores the issues, it does the opposite. With positive parenting you are not accepting bad behavior or overlooking it. Instead, you are getting to the root cause and dealign with it with love and respect.

Without further ado, here is my big list of positive parenting quotes to inspire you.

Jane Nelsen Positive Discipline Quotes:

“Where did we ever get the crazy idea that in order to make children do better, first we have to make them feel worse? Think of the last time you felt humiliated or treated unfairly. Did you feel like cooperating or doing better?”
― Jane Nelsen positive discipline quotes

“If you want to leave the park and your child isn’t ready to go, give her a hug and say, “You’re really upset right now.
